We got access to a comprehensive NFL stats database and now we're about to go ham with insights. First up? We're talking RBU. Lots of people have ideas about what RBU, or DBU, or NFLU is, but we use data instead of relying on our feelings
We took the totals from numerous categories and ranked the top 5 teams in each category. For each category, we then assigned a score 5-1 in reverse order for each team. We then took the total of all the sub-category scores to determine a winner
Those categories are:
Alabama is RBU, and it's really not close. Rolling up the totals to assign 1-5 points in the categories actually minimizes how big of a gap Alabama has on everyone else. Consider the fact that Alabama has 42 TDs and #2 Penn State has 21. Alabama only gets 1 more point than PSU. Same for an almost 3x advantage in rushing yards. Simply put, Alabama was RBU in 2022 any way you look at it
